José Dueñas León
My Flamenco guitar journey began aged 9 in Córdoba Spain with my uncle Antonio Dueñas León, he was a professional guitarist performing and recording with celebrated dancers like Ciro, and singers such as Juanito Valderrama and Maria la Talegona. He shared with me his priceless knowledge, experience, and skills and continues to be my deepest inspiration.
I perform in the UK and internationally with my sister the dancer Ana Dueñas León in our co-founded company Amor Flamenco.
I have performed in Spain, Dubai, France, Morocco, Istanbul, S. Asia and in the UK at The Pavilion Theatres in Brighton and Worthing, Winchester Cathedral, The Hawth, Crawley, The Saatchi Gallery, The Khalifa Stadium Qatar amongst many others.
I am a prolific songwriter/producer in multiple genres with music appearing in Hollywood romantic comedy films, prime TV gritty police dramas and online advertising. Aired by media heavyweight such as Netflix, Fox, NBC, A+E, my music is heard in dozens of productions including What Men Want, Ugly Betty, Blue Bloods, The Rookie, Better Call Saul. Gotham. Queen of the South, Roswell New México. Los Bandoleros (Vin Diesel) and more.
I can teach in English Spanish French and Italian and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.

Flamenco 1 week retreat Cortijo Romero Granada Spain
Every year I lead a one-week guitar course at Cortijo Romero in the idyllic mountains of Granada in Spain.
THIS YEAR-September 9th-16th 2023
My sister Ana teaches Flamenco dance during the same week. Both classes join at times on each study day sharing a unique opportunity to learn together.
Guitar students develop the crucial skill of solid rhythmic feel and timing to accompany dancers and singers (Ana and I both sing for classes), along with the finesse and subtlety to play ‘falsetas’ (melodic variations).
Many of our UK and international students return every year to enjoy the week with us sharing learning, good food, sunshine and fun!

Flamenco guitar and dance, Spain
Flamenco teacher José Dueñas León
English-Spanish guitarist José Dueñas León comes from a flamenco family, and along with his sister, Ana, has been teaching the traditional Spanish music and dance form since 2008. Once a year they head to the Cortijo Romero retreat in the hills of Andalucía – the heart of flamenco country – where participants are encouraged to switch off and immerse themselves in the music and the environment.
“We pick a song at the beginning of the week,” Dueñas León says, “I teach the guitarists, my sister teaches the dancers, the groups practise together, and by the end of the week we have created a flamenco performance.”
Dueñas León is passionate about sharing his country’s music and culture – he and Ana also perform for the guests, as do local musicians, and there is plenty of time for walking and swimming. Novices are welcome and there is no need to read music as everything is taught by ear. I tell him I can play a bit of basic guitar, and before we know it, we’re deep in discussion about flamenco chords … and I’m Googling flights to Granada …
