Just setting up an account doesn't really get you anywhere in understanding how to use Social Media platforms to fit your own life style or business needs. It all seems to be going on and you'd like to understand it, but don't know where to start.

I have been playing with and delving into social media for about 7 years now and have been doing things online with websites for much longer. I feel there is a big barrier at the start that can really put people off which is 'how can this be of any relevance to me?'

Up to April 2012 I was working at the Open University on a Research project about free online educational resources as project manager. I have always been an inbetween person able to understand the technology and make connections about how it could be useful, whilst managing to identify with people who it makes no sense to and who need it to be translated into terms they can understand.

I am now working from home freelance and I feel that there are many people who could benefit from some training from me either in relation to marketing their small business or just not missing out on this world that everyone else seems to know about.
