I am forty one years old and a teacher of more than 7 years experience. My main subject is music and my musical background is mostly in live bands with some recording and touring in the UK.

I play guitar and I also teach guitar for students' enjoyment and in preparation for their assessments or exams.

I have recently returned from living in Barcelona, Spain for two years where I benefitted from a variety of fulfilling teaching experiences involving a range of school and student types: from senior executive business people to schools for multicultural students.

I can assist with most academic work and I have had a good deal of experience in supporting university degree students with their research and essay and dissertation planning.

The Power of Music

'The Power of Music' is a series of lectures/workshops that explores the many ways in which music affects our emotions and stimulates us physiologically.

The main activity will be listening and discussing music from a whole range of styles and periods (e.g. from Medieval sacred music to more current popular styles and world music), although there will be additional activities designed to help students explore historical and cultural elements as well as more practical musical devices.

The sessions can help support current musical studies especially for anyone who is planning to study music at university as many of the ideas relate to historical and critical theory often found within university programmes. However, the course is open to everyone with an interest in music and anyone can participate simply by having a passion for music. There is no assessment or validation and your experience and tastes in music are as important a component of the sessions as any of the ideas included in the course themes.
