Michaela Welsh
I have been teaching Chemistry A-level and all three Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) at GCSE for the past 3 years, and still teach full time. I have been tutoring for 18 months.
My passion for Chemistry was aroused during my own school career and, studying the subject as a single discipline at University, I realised that this enthusiasm for the subject could captivate an audience of keen young scientists. After achieving a II.i Chemistry degree from the University of Leeds, I immediately began my PGCE teacher training.
Throughout my teaching career, to date, I have been judged 'Outstanding' in every lesson observation and rated as 'Exceptional' during my training year.
Whilst tutoring I ensure that all pupils unlock their full potential and progress with the idea that ‘anybody can achieve’, I take great pride in getting to know students as individuals and tailoring planning and resources to suit their needs, after all we are all different so learn differently.
Having been a joint Sixth Form tutor I have experience with UCAS applications and interview preparation for University. Additionally, I hope to inspire and encourage the uptake of Chemistry, and related degrees, at undergraduate level.
I have experience in both 1:1 and small group tuition. I have helped students raise their results from a U grade to an A , then go onto study medicine.
Chemistry is a vital subject in many course requirements, such as Medicine and Dentistry. Tutoring is a successful way of ensuring that you are making the right steps in achieving these grades. I am not entirely exam driven, it is important that students enjoy and understand the subject so that (hopefully!) should they take it further they will gain a phenomenal amount more by understanding the science rather than the exam specifications.
I am young, approachable and have received fantastic feedback from students and parents alike.
