I'm an author and journalist who has written both fiction and non-fiction, including a history of my own family. My books have been widely reviewed and acclaimed.

I have also been a journalist, and have written for national newspapers and a range of magazines, print and online.

For almost 20 years, I have taught journalism, fiction, non-fiction and family history in very different setting, from universities to evening classes, and from the Guardian Masterclass programme to my own family history workshops.
