Quentin Smith
My name is Quentin Smith and I have been practising marquetry and parquetry for well over 20 years. My work has been exhibited, and received numerous awards, at the Marquetry Society's National Exhibitions. Since 1994 I have been eligible to exhibit in the highest "premier" class and I have served on the judging panel on three occasions. I have contributed a range of articles to the Marquetry Society's magagine "The Marquetarian" and in 2011, three articles to Furniture & Cabinetmaking magazine.
Since mid-2009 I have been self-employed, undertaking private and commercial marquetry commissions. I offer private tuition (at a mutually agreed venue) and I am willing to run workshops or courses for interested groups.
My Marquetry Society National Exhibition awards include:
1993 - H.Pedder Trophy for best portraiture
2002 - Ron Gibbons Trophy for best miniature in show
2007 - Jack Byrne Trophy for best parquetry in show
2007 - Ron Page Trophy for best miniature applied work in show
2008 - Jack Byrne Trophy for best parquetry in show
2008 - Ron Page Trophy for best miniature applied work in show

Experience
President of the Marquetry Society
I am proud to have served two consecutive three-year terms as President of the Marquetry Society, a period which included its Diamond Jubilee year.
Marquetry Demonstrator & Teacher
I have run courses for a range of venues including the WI's Denman College, the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield and Peter Sefton's Furniture School.
Since 2016 I have appeared several times on the Hochanda craft TV channel, giving live demonstrations of marquetry techniques.
Founder - Staffordshire Marquetry Group
I exhibited some of my work at the Eccleshall Show. Enough people were interested and we formed a small group. That has continued to grow and now has around 35 members. The Group hosted the Marquetry Society's National Exhibitions in 1999 and 2008 and won the Society Group Shield for most points at the National Exhibition in 2008 and 2011.
