Robert Dutton
A full time artist since 1997 following a professional career as a commercial artist, Robert Dutton holds a BA (Hons) degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from Kingston Upon Hull School of Art and Design qualifying in 1982. His dynamic acrylic and mixed media paintings have been acquired by international clients and are included in corporate, private and public collections at home and abroad and have been presented in over 30 successful exhibitions.
The essence of his work lies in expressing a vivid sense of place, time and atmosphere. A fascination with the unusual effects of natural light, the seductive power and elegance of nature and a passion for art and architecture both past and present, have had a major effect on his subject matter and aesthetic.
Robert’s appreciation for architectural subjects has, in the main, been due to his family influence - his own father being a very gifted architect in his own right. His other interests include the great outdoors and has spent a great deal of time and study in the mountain and moorland environs to include the Appalachian mountains in America, the European Pyrenees, Scottish, Welsh and UK mountain locations as well as in the UK to include the Cairngorms and Rannoch moor, Scotland, and the Cumbrian and Welsh mountains which are of complete contrast to his more colourful Mediterranean subjects. He has a passion for painting coastal subjects also to include the rugged coastal reaches of the outer hebridies and Isles of Scotland, as well as the great sweeping beaches of Norfolk and the sharp Atlantic light as seen along the Welsh coast.
His work has been featured in numerous publications including International Artist and The Artist magazine and has shown regularly with the Federation of British Artists at the Mall Galleries and the Academy in London. Robert is represented by The Appleyard Gallery, Holt, Norfolk, The Ancient House (part of the Holkham Hall Estate in Holkham,Norfolk), The Leith Gallery, Edinburgh, THe Headrow Gallery, Leeds, Yorkshire, Chantry House Gallery, Ripley, North Yorkshire, Zillah Bell gallery, North Yorkshire, ‘The Gallery’, Masham, North Yorkshire and The Blake Gallery, York - many exhibitions have been complete sell outs with buyers recognising his distinct and versatile art. Robert also holds a private and successful annual solo exhibition each year and his studio is open by appointment throughout the year to interested buyers.
