Sam Marchant
I have taught the drums regularly for the last 6 years. This has been a mixture of private tuition, where i've taught all levels and a variety of genres, and mixed ability classes teaching up to four students at a time. I've also held rhythm section and percussion section workshops in schools over hampshire.
I achieved grade 8 on drum kit when I was 15. I was a member of the Hampshire youth Orchestra for 3 years playing in the percussion section. We did numerous concerts in many different locations and performed a variety of classical music.
I was a member of Southampton Jazz Orchestra for four years. Whilst a member of this band I played with guest artists such as Soweto Kinch, Guy Barker, Julian Joseph and Andy Shepard. During this time we also performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival. I have also played at the Isle Of White Jazz Festival.
For the last two years I have been studying at Birmingham Conservatoire on the Jazz course and am now in my third year of study. In this time i hav had the opportunity to play with many great artists and learn from some of the top leading jazz artists around. I have had to pass many music exams whilst studying, all of which have involved sight-reading to a very high standard and improvising to an equally high standard.
