Thomas I'Anson
From an early age Tom has shown promise as a naturally gifted instrumentalist. After first taking up the piano at age 7 he eventually moved onto his main instrument, the trombone, during his final year of primary school. Moving onto secondary school at Guilsborough he became as part of many of the ensembles and bands provided. It was through these ensembles that he took part in three tours to Europe. It is during this time that he became involved with the Northampton music service, playing in some of the Big band jazz ensembles as well as the training wind orchestra. As well as continuing trombone lessons at the Northampton music service at the age of 16 Tom took up the bass guitar, teaching himself. From this point on he started to become a more focused musician. Throughout his time at 6th form, as well as studying for his music A level Tom became more involved with several local function bands and pop bands. Through this he gained massive live experience playing in many demanding situations, including a gig in Germany.
In September 2007 Tom began his studies at the Leeds Collage of Music. A year and a half into his studies at the collage and he has already taken advantage of music that it has to offer. This includes performing with both the big band and contempory big band, the Symphony Orchestra and the collages pit band, as well as many other smaller ensembles. Outside of collage Tom has become involved with many bands and projects which range massively in style, ranging from Pop to Art music. Such projects include; the Bridge Rats Big Band; a successful ensemble which has recently undergone a tour which involved several gigs in Northampton and Luton, The Root 1 band; a reggae band which has perform with artists such as Bongo Chilli and Dan Man, and the Leeds based pop group Arthur Rigby and the Baskervylles; an up and coming pop group who have performed in venues such as the London club The Lumanaire and on BBC radio Leeds. As well as these groups Tom has also worked with several notable musicians, including; Kenny Wheller, Michael Gibbs, Pete Beechill, Christine Tobin, and Iration Steppas.
