Tom Hackwell

I am a dedicated musician with a great deal of experience in performing guitar in many different styles and with a number of bands. My main musical influences include seminal rock artists including Led Zeppelin, Muse and Radiohead. In addition, I am highly interested in and influenced by jazz music which in recent years has increasingly infiltrated my playing style. I am also a keen composer of guitar-related and vocal music.

I have taught guitar as a secondary occupation for a number of years but have recently decided to take it up as a full time job.

I can teach a student the basis of all guitar playing such as chords, tuning and reading tab. Following the students mastery of the basics, I like to discuss with them which direction they would prefer taking next. This could involve learning the skills required to play and compose pop songs or we might decide to take a genre-specific approach to teaching, focusing on the blues or rock guitar, for instance. I feel that tailoring a guitar course that meets the interests of the student is integral in the furthering of their learning and encouraging a commitment to the instrument which, in turn will lead to a much more effective progression of their ability.

If requested, I can also teach to grade level, preparing the student for examinations in guitar.

I have an A-Level qualification in music

£17.50 per hour or £10 per half hour
