Dancing Shoes formed in Jan 2006 and provides dance classes for all. Our motto is 'Every Child Matters' regardless of ability, religion or ethnic origin .
In 2011 the group were presented with 'THE WREXHAM AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE' This award is a kite-mark award scheme developed by A.V.O.W on behalf of 'The Wrexham Children and Young People's Framework Partnership. As only one of twenty-six organisations to gain this award in the Wrexham area they are proud to be recognised and acknowledged that 'we have all the systems we need in place to run a 'safe' service for young people'.
Classes are fun and friendly as we believe that the expression of oneself through music and dance is more beneficial and rewarding to students when it is free from the stresses of competition and examination. Showcases are performed yearly with every student taking part and all are actively encouraged to choreograph and perform their own work in in showcase.

Experience

Lead Choreographer - Alysha Harrison

ALYSHA first found her dancing feet at the the age of four as a member of the Junior Chorus during the run of the pantomime 'ROBIN HOOD' at Grove Park Theatre in December 2005, where she impressed the audiences with her Irish Tap.

As one of the founder students of DANCING SHOES WREXHAM she has since danced her way through 'THRILL THE WORLD' four Christmas and eight yearly showcases, several outside events in both group and solo routines in dance as well as song. Her enthusiasm and commitment earned her a place as the youngest LOWER SENIOR student when this new class was introduced in September 2009 and, following the Christmas Show in 2009 she requested to choreogaraph a routine with one or two of the Intermediate students for the 'DANCING THROUGH LIFE' showcase in August 2010. Following this success and still only eleven she was given the title of JUNIOR CHOREOGRAPHER in the September working with the Junior class and built a warm, fun and successful relationship with them by using a combination of dance steps and musical movement. Their performance of 'The Climb' in 'RESOLUTIONS II' in the New Year 2011 was endearing and enjoyed both by those who performed and those who watched.

She progressed to CHOREOGRAPHER working with the Intermediate Plus class and in September 2013 following the success of 'MUSICAL COCKTAILS' she became LEAD CHOREOGRAPHER with responsibilty for the Senior Students.

She has also performed at 'Y GALERI' Caernarfon in November 2012 as member of the Youth Dance Technique and Performance Class with North East Wales Dance and in Setember 2014 as she enters Year 10 in school and will also attend Coleg Cambria having successfuly gained a place on the Performing Arts course for Wrexham 14-19 year olds.

Director.- Annie Lewis

Annie Lewis Director of Dancing Shoes since its conception in 2006 has vast experience in amateur theatre both as a Director and Actor.
Re-joining Grove Park Theatre Wrexham in 1995 after an absence of several years she very soon made her mark on the stage in both comedy and serious acting roles moving very quickly into the production aspect of both plays and pantomimes. In 2002 for three consecutive years as Technical Director she assumed responsiblility for all backstage and technical departments within the theatre and designed sets, lit and stage managed several productions during that time. Following her direction of the successful run of the pantomime Robin Hood and the Babes in The Woods in December 2005 she was approached by the chorus members of this pantomine who wished to continue dancing throughout the year and so started the now very successful dance group Dancing Shoes. Independent from the theatre since 2008 this group has moved from strength to strength and is run by a series of dedicated volunteers and talented choreographers.
