My name is Barry Miller, I'm based in the North West of England, close to the Cities of Preston and Manchester. I am a retired life long photographer stretching back to the early days of 35mm and large format film, dealing mainly in portrait work, product photography and landscapes and now exclusively using digital capture and digital processing with in-depth knowledge of both Photo-shop and Paint-shop Pro. We have come a long way since the days of film photography, so much more has to be taken into consideration now, both in camera technology and in post photographic imaging. We must never think that digital photography ends once we press the shutter, in truth it is merely just beginning, this is because the software and our own technique in using it then comes into play. There is another world to explore once we transfer the basic image to the PC. It is here that our secondary photographic skill can turn a very good photograph into a great, or even fantastic image. We can now do things 'post image' faster, better and with more choice, we are now limited only by our own imagination. As the post image software improves and becomes more available to us, so does our personal technical skills and improvements to the finished image.

I have been using film photography for almost 50 years and all aspects of digital photography for the past 14 years, digital photography is a world apart from film photography, the leap forward is a short but mighty one because many of the techniques are different in many ways. I specialise in people and portraits using standard and low light situations but also take photographs of just about anything and everything with Nikon and Fuji camera equipment. However, it matters not what make and model of camera we use, it is the knowledge that we possess which is important. Whether we are operating with a very basic modest digital point and shoot camera or the latest DSLR camera, the process of trying to capture a great image is the same.

Now, with the onset of digital imaging for all and the easy availability of digital processing it has become possible for almost anyone with a little bit of help and instruction to take acceptable photographs in all disciplines and to acquire the knowledge to work on the image within the digital darkroom using the relevant imaging software. The digital darkroom allows each and every one of us the freedom to produce perfect or near perfect photographs that are acceptable for wall hanging and even exhibiting in gallery work. Once you are familiar with the fundamentals of digital imaging, composition and camera technique and then acquire the knowledge to work with digital darkroom techniques it becomes relatively easy to go on to become a proficient photographer. It is then possible to take great and imaginative images that you though was beyond your capabilities. With a little practise and patience you can even go forward to taking on paid work for yourself.

I work with either group teachings or one to one individual workshops, using long standing camera techniques for composing professional looking photographs and then to manipulate the images using Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro. If you are interested in either one to one, group teaching or on-line tutoring then contact me via my web site or email me here.

Tutoring is geared to individual needs, however the basic digital camera structures are Beginner, Intermediate and advanced. There is a separate tutorial with regard to Photoshop and Paintshop for the use of image manipulation and digital darkroom techniques.

If you have any questions at all then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
