Linda Young
Linda was taught to knit by her grandmother whilst still a small child and then to crochet by her friends mother. Over the years she has added many other crafts to her portfolio and has lost count of the number of people she’s taught to knit, crochet, make cards, Christmas decorations, handbags .………….
Although her career made her a successful banker and IT professional, she never lost her love of crafts and became concerned they weren’t being handed on through the generations as they hadn’t moved with the times, after all they’re so easy to do and a lot of fun.
Crafts such as knitting, were seen as boring and old fashioned – no one dresses their babies in matinee coats and bootees and the days of covered toilet roll holders and tissue boxes are long gone. So Linda decided to update the patterns to embrace iPods, mobiles and the fashions in the High Street, show the next generation what could be made and bring the old crafts into the 21st century.
Getting people on board though became a problem – no time, no room and no money were common reasons for not starting. “I’m not very artistic”, “I can’t draw”, “I was rubbish at that at school”, was the feedback. Hence Diztractions was born to show in small bites how easy it is to make things, how the skills can be learnt by anyone and how much pleasure creating for yourself can give. The emphasis throughout would be having fun in a friendly supportive environment.
Other sessions are available for more experienced crafters or beginners who want to take things further, just email [email protected].
Linda continues to add new skills to her world and regularly attends classes to both update her existing skills and learn something new.
