Pure Mathematics from 30,000 Feet
This quick course takes you through the main areas of pure mathematics that you would meet up to the early graduate level. We'll look briefly at multi-dimensional calculus, topology, analysis, linear algebra (matrices and transformations), abstract algebra (groups, fields, rings etc), graph theory, number theory, formal logic and more.
Of course we can't go into detail in such a short course; the idea is to give you a picture of what's out there, what it looks like, how it fits together and how to learn more.
This is a great course for those who are fascinated by maths and would like to learn more but feel a bit lost. It will give you a framework for your own investigations.
You don't need any specific knowledge to follow this course but you do need to not be scared of maths and be able to do a bit. If you have an A Level or equivalent in maths then we can go into more detail; if you're at a lower level right now, that's fine too.
The course can be delivered as one, rather intense session or two 1-hour sessions. If I'm travelling to you, the single session will of course be more cost-effective. If you like, follow-up sessions can be arranged to focus on areas you're interested in.
As always I'm happy to deliver this course to a small group of students, which significantly lowers the cost per student.
