I'm a full-time, experienced independent tutor and writer. I have degrees in both English Literature and Mathematics and a PhD in Philosophy. I teach at all levels from GCSE to undergraduate level.

Different Class

This is a series of highly interactive seminars curated and facilitated by Jonathan White of the London School of Economics. Each one has a short reading from a classic text of C20th social or political theory that should be done in advance.

The sessions aren't cumulative so it's OK to come along if you've missed some.

I'm a lecturer in guitar at Greenwich Community College. I'm a guitarist with more than 25 years' experience, specialising in jazz, rock and avant garde styles. At GCC I teach both practical skills and theory. I also take private guitar students.

I was the sole tutor on the postgraduate (Masters-level) course Language in Journalism. The course was run by Brian Winston, a pioneer in the linguistic analysis of the news, and some of the approaches we taught there are now part of A Level English Language.

I completed my BSc in mathematics while working full-time as a computer programmer at Goldman Sachs. I specialised in pure maths, including topology, complex analysis, group theory, graph theory, number theory, logic and analysis.

My research was in the aesthetics of music. I studied, among others, Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Wittgenstein, Heidegger, Quine, Rorty and Adorno.

The core literature course at Cardiff contained detailed 2-year modules on Chaucer, Shakespeare, Renaissance poetry, Victorian literature and Critical Theory. I also studied modern drama and twentieth century poetry and wrote a final-year dissertation on Lyotard's characterisations of modernism and postmodernism.
