    Neijiaquan website

The ancient Chinese martial arts are veiled in mystery.
Each school teaches its own unique approach to the experience of self defence.
Historically, the training methods and applications of the different schools were closely guarded.
The most secretive and inaccessible were the neijia schools.

Neijiaquan employs taoist insights and principles.
The teachings are counter-intuitive, puzzling and cryptic.
They cannot be explained using words.
In order to understand, you must do.

Not everyone is capable or willing to explore the hidden teachings of the arcane arts.

    Inspired teaching - free e-course

My friend Nick worked on this course with a friend of his who has sadly passed away, but he's made it available now for free in his memory. It includes a PDF guide plus two hours of supporting audio comprising seven easy lessons in how to identify what you know and competently teach it.

As Nick says, "we would love you to have access to Rick’s material free of charge – with just one condition – please use the material to teach what you have to share."

Might be of interest to all those "long-time learners, first-time teachers" out there?

    Becoming a teacher

This week a couple of friends of mine asked me to teach them how the web works, and the basics of what they'd need to know to commission their own websites. So I found myself in the strange position of being their teacher for the evening. I think I did okay, so here's what I did, and what I learnt:

    1. I asked them what they wanted to learn. (Easy to miss this one.) They basically had enough questions to build a clear map of the lesson, and it meant I could use examples from their lives to illustrate my points.
