Beat Juggling for Beginners

This lesson is an introduction to beat juggling. It caters towards DJs that would like to challenge themselves and have some fun with turntablism.
Beat juggling is where the real showmanship starts. By ‘juggling’ between two turntables (usually the same record) you can jumble up the music and create your own live remix of a piece of music. It can get incredibly complex (to the point where it’s difficult to tell what’s going on) but the basics are easy to learn and once you have those building blocks you can really start experimenting.
THE LESSON
The techniques I will cover:
• Beat juggling theory
• Marking records for beat juggling
• Looping
• Basic loop remixing
• Adding extra drum hits
I will provide you with a handout at the end of the lesson to summarise everything that you've learnt.
EQUIPMENT
• We will be using turntables.
• I will bring beat juggling material. If you have doubles of records that you want to use then bring them along too.
• If you have your own decks I can travel to you or you can travel to me, whichever you’d prefer.
N.B. At this stage you really should have decent turntables with good torque. If you don’t then I’d advise that we use my setup.
