Scratching for Beginners (part 2)
In ‘Introduction to Scratching part 1’ we learnt the basic scratches that use just one hand. In this lesson we will begin to incorporate both hands and start to use the crossfader.
This takes more practice and coordination but it is worth it. With the crossfader you can scratch much faster and neater.
THE LESSON
The scratches I will cover:
• Forward/reverse cutting
• Chops
• Stabs
• Transform
I will provide you with a handout at the end of the lesson to summarise everything that you've learnt.
EQUIPMENT
• We will be using turntables.
• I will provide the 'scratch material' and good quality needles for the lesson. You’re welcome to bring your own records to scratch to (preferably no vocals).
• If you have your own decks I can travel to you or you can travel to me, whichever you’d prefer.
N.B. It’s important to have a mixer that has a smooth/loose crossfader. If it is stiff to move it will be much more difficult to make progress.
