what is subjective science?
subjective science is the methodology by which we come to comprehend ourselves.
objective science is the methodology evolved over centuries to study objects, most recently developed over the last 200 to 400 years in the west.
some simple equivalences between the science of objects and the science of subjects: experiments v experience, facts v insights, knowledge v wisdom, absolute v relative, falsification v verification, logical v intuitive, predictive v unpredictable, simple v complex.

My experience with homemade teaching aids
Feeling that my maths tutoring needed some more variety than the usual studying pages of revision guides and working through exercises and past papers, I decided to make some DIY teaching aids.
One summer I made a demonstration of Pythagoras’s Theorem out of painted plywood. I found this quite time-consuming, given my limited woodworking skills. After that, I made others out of white-fronted cardboard to demonstrate various principles of algebra and geometry. This proved to be easier to do.
Slang lessons
Claire and I were in a charity shop by the office, buying suits for the next Formal Friday, and overheard the assistants giving the new Japanese assistant lessons in London slang. Here are a few terms, for those who aren't sufficiently 'street' to know them already:
'peng' = good/hot
'butters' = bad/ugly (As in "dem beats is butters man")
'nang' = good
'sick' = also good
'sket' = a slut, a sexually promiscuous girl
Also enjoyed their exchange with their six-year old sister:
- 6yo: "Why can't I say 'sket'?"
- Sister: "Um... because it's offensive"

How to write Consistently Boring Scientific Literature
A not at all boring article that's full of genuinely good advice on what not to do if you find yourself writing a scientific paper.

The sound of a black hole
A few months ago, a friend played me some remarkable recordings made by scientists at the Jodrell Bank Observatory, who had captured and made audible the "sound" of stars. I just discovered that these are available, with lots more information about how the recordings were made, on a recent edition of the observatory's JodCast:
http://www.jodcast.net/archive/200808Extra/
Particularly mesmerising is the sound of material falling into a black hole (just after 23 minutes in on the podcast), which someone described as "God playing the bongos"!
Unlimited Resources
Every member of School of Everything can add notes, links, videos, images, documents and other things to the site that help people learn or teach a particular subject. If you're learning, you can use it to keep track of your progress in your subjects and all the things that help you learn like useful websites or how-to videos.
If you're teaching, you can share useful resources and advice that you think will help people learn you subjects. You can tag each resource post with one or more subjects, and your posts will appear to other people looking for those subjects.
Don't be shy, say hello. We'd love to hear from you.
Stay safe
